Mary’s story

Mary Craig first learned Pilates as a young ballet student in
1967.
Her ballet teacher, Kay Armstrong, had studied with Joseph Pilates.
Throughout her 20 years as a professional dancer Mary used Pilates as part of her warm-up before class or performing. It was a natural workout.
In 1987, a colleague told Mary about this amazing “new” exercise technique he was learning that was good for dancers. She signed up. The “new” technique turned out to be Pilates. Mary realized all those exercises she had been doing for so many years were Pilates exercises.
She decided to learn more.
In 1995, Mary received her formal training and certification from Romana Kryzanowska and Sari Mejia Pace at the Pilates Seattle International studio.
In 1998, she was the first certified teacher to offer Pilates
to Vancouver community center patrons.
Currently, Mary teaches Pilates matwork at Mt. Pleasant, Sunset and
Hillcrest community centers.
She also teaches privately.
Over time, Mary has realized the continuing value of Pilates.
Even after years of practice there is always something new to discover
in a workout.
This deceptively simple exercise system, created more than 70 years
ago, does exactly what “Joe” said it would do.
“In 10 sessions you will feel the difference, in 20 you will see the difference, and in 30 you will have a whole new body.” —Joseph Pilates
